Moong dal ka halwa is a very popular and rich sweet recipe from the Northern India. Especially in Rajasthan this halwa is relished in the entire winter season. The Rajasthanis avoid it in the other seasons as moong is hot for the body. And my health conscious readers will be glad to know that in this recipe I will tell you how to make moong dal ka halwa without using mawa. This halwa recipe is prepared in every auspicious and festive occasion, be it Holi, Diwali or marriages. But before giving you the recipe, I should inform you that it is a time consuming and tedious preparation. So get in the kitchen with the plan of cooking moong dal ka halwa only when you have enough time in hand. And now without further ado, on with the recipe


  • 1 cup yellow moong dal
  • 0.25 cup ghee
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 0.25 cup condensed milk
  • 2 tablespoon sugar (optional)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 tablespoon cashew nuts
  • 3 tablespoon raisins
  • 1 teaspoon cardamom powder


  • Soak the moong dal for 3-4 hours
  • Drain the water and grind the dal with little water
  • You will get a coarse paste
  • Heat ghee in a non-stick sauce pan and the moong dal paste
  • Stir it nicely in medium flame
  • After 10-15 minutes you will get the aroma of dal
  • When the ghee starts to stick to the pan, add condensed milk and hot milk
  • Keep stirring the mixture still milk absorbed by moong dal(10-15min)
  • Now add cardamom powder, sugar (optional) and dry fruits for the fragrance and texture
