These small cakes were originally baked in cups and now we mostly use cup-shaped mould or paper baking cups to prepare cupcake recipe.   • gm softened butter
  • gm caster sugar
  • gm plain flour
  • teaspoon baking powder
  • teaspoon salt
  • eggs
  • teaspoon vanilla extract


  • Preheat the oven to 180 degree centigrade
  • Line a muffin tin with paper cases
  • Put the butter and sugar in a bowl and beat until pale and fluffy
  • Sift the flour, baking powder and salt into the bowl
  • Beat the eggs and vanilla and add to the bowl
  • With a help of a spoon put the mixture into the paper cases or baking cups
  • Bake for 18 to 20 minutes
  • At this point they will fluff up
  • Check the golden colour and firm texture
  • Once the colour and texture has achieved you can cool it
  • Keep it on a wire rack to cool down and serve
