Momos have its own unique place in our hearts and diet. ‘Momo’ means steamed bread and it is the ethnic cuisine of Sikkim and North-East India. A staple food of China and Nepal, momos have created its own place in our Indian cuisine. As per your preference you can get vegetable momos, chicken momos, different types of meat, paneer, chocolate or cheese momos, and many other types. Today I will share with you the absolutely magical steamed veg momo recipe which should be eaten with the spicy red momo chutney recipe. Let’s get started.


  • 1 cup minced cabbage, French beans, carrots, mushrooms
  • 2 cups white flour (maida)
  • Salt to taste
  • A pinch of baking powder
  • 2 stands of spring onions (chopped)
  • 2 teaspoon finely chopped ginger
  • 6 cloves chopped garlic
  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce
  • Ingredients for chilli sauce
  • 50 gm peeled garlic
  • 6-7 dried whole red chillies (soaked in vinegar)
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil


  • Mix minced vegetables with the chopped ginger-garlic, spring onions, soy sauce, salt, and oil and keep the mixture to sit for some time
  • Meanwhile knead the white flour, baking powder, and salt together into smooth dough and cover and keep aside
  • Roll the dough into thin and flat small rounds
  • Now take small portions of the vegetable mixture and keep it in the centre to stuff these flour breads
  • Fold the edges and seal it
  • Use a traditional bamboo steamer or the metal one for about 10 minutes
  • Cut the red chillies in small pieces in and soak them in water
  • Now put the same chillies in a cup of vinegar for an hour
  • Once that is done put the chillies along with other ingredients in a blender and make a paste
