Paneer is the Indian cottage cheese, also known as chhana or chhena in many parts of the country and kadai is the Indian wok. So kadai panner is cottage cheese cooked in a wok. Dating back to ancient India, paneer is a versatile ingredient that can be used for both sweet and savoury dishes. Kadai paneer recipe is a popular North Indian vegetarian curry. The secret to prepare a delicious kadai paneer recipe is the ground spices and fresh paneer. The steps mentioned below will help you to master the recipe.


  • 500 gm paneer (cottage cheese) cut into 1 inch cubes
  • 3 tablespoon oil
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 cloves
  • 2 inch piece cinnamon
  • 2 dried red chilies
  • 2 tablespoons coriander seeds crushed
  • 1 medium onion chopped + 1 onion diced
  • 2 teaspoon ginger paste
  • 2 teaspoon garlic paste
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 2 tomato chopped + 1 tomato diced
  • Salt to taste
  • chopped coriander leaves


  • Heat 1 tbsp oil in a kadai and add, cloves, cinnamon, broken dried red chillie and crushed coriander
  • Saute them till the aroma fills the air
  • Add chopped onion and saute for a while
  • Add ginger,garlic paste,tomatoes saute for few min and grind to a smooth paste
  • Heat the 2tbsp oil, add bay leaf,diced onions,tomato, paste ,coriander powder and red chilli powder
  • Cook until the oil separates
  • Add paneer, salt and half a cup of water
  • Cover and cook over low heat for 5-7 minutes
  • Serve hot and garnished with coriander leaves
