Which is that one cake that pops up in our mind when we think of fresh crème cakes? Yes, black forest cake is the unanimous answer. One of the top cakes in the popularity chart in India, black forest is not only favorite among the kids but also for the older group who grew up celebrating fun occasions with this cake. The original name of this popular German dessert is Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte which is also known as Black Forest cherry torte. The authentic black forest is a multiple chocolate genoise layer cake which is soaked in Kirschwasser liqueur (a clear liqueur distilled from cherries) and covered with whipped cream and cherry filling. It is known by different names in different countries and the preparation style also varies with slight modifications. From birthday celebration to anniversaries, from picnics to giving a surprise treat, black forest always does the trick. This incredibly gorgeous looking cake contains very simple ingredients and you can easily prepare it at home. Just follow the steps mentioned below and even if you are baking for the first time, I am sure it will be a cakewalk for you.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 400 gm sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 25 gm cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cup white flour
  • 100 gm butter
  • 50 gm milk chocolate
  • 200 ml aerated soda
  • 200 gm fresh cream
  • 250 gm sour cherries
  • 1/4 cup icing sugar / powdered sugar
  • Grated chocolate or chocolate chips for garnishing

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Pre-heat the oven to 180 degree centigrade
  • Grease a baking tray and sprinkle white flour
  • Mix together white flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and baking powder
  • Soften butter in natural room temperature and add sweetened condensed milk
  • Beat this mixture well and add the vanilla essence
  • Add the flour mixture and aerated soda alternately to the batter till the entire flour and soda are used up
  • Pour the batter into a baking tray and bake for 45-50 minutes in the preheated oven
  • After that remove from oven and cool for a while
  • Loosen the sides of the cake, using a knife if necessary
  • Turnout on a plate and make it cool down a bit before cutting the cake
  • Drain the can of sour cherries. Beat whip cream and sugar together till it becomes light and fluffy
  • Cut the cake and put whipped cream ,chopped cherries in between the two layers of cake
  • Garnish it with whipped cream, grated chocolate and cherries
  • Chill it in the refrigerator and serve to your loved ones
